Subject: Does anyone else hate gmail?????????????
I HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its the least intuitive most confusing email system I have ever
encountered. I have had a stupid hotmail account since 1993!!!! never
once have I been confused or had trouble finding an email or
anything.

I have Yahoo, and my business email acct too and I have been trying
gmail for almost a year now!!!!!!  It just
sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I waste hiours trying to find an
email and once you have read and email it just all becomes this blur
and you cannot find a damn thing!

AND it doesn't work with 'well' my Internet explorer browser so I have
to use it off of firefow- which in theory is fine but firefox is so
'smart' that it never lets me open to my 'gmail home page' so I
haven't seen THAT in months!

HATIN
IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(off topic)

This topic is for Gmail-related problems in the Chrome browser.

As a side note: why do you use Gmail then?

Because IN THEORY  I love google and the concept. I want it to work
and be awesome! I will prob. bag it soon but that means switching my
email address again to everyone...drag.

OK, but what is it exactly that you cannot do in Gmail? Maybe if you
post your problems or questions, you'll get some replies with
solutions.

Subject: Re: (off topic) Does anyone else hate gmail?
its really more of an intuitive thing. I can absolutely never find old
emails. Yes I can search subject words and usually dredge them up-
which is cool. Or I can painstakingly comb thru each line. But for
whatever reason- graphics? excessive use of logic? lol !? I find it
really difficult to open the email acct and SEE whats happening with
my email, quickly reference an old one...pick something out of the
line up quickly.

its sort of like using the Boston T map vs. the NYC subway map. Yes
the T map is super logical and color coded but everything 'weighs' the
same and is an abstract graphic that removes you another step from
reality. You never have any idea where in Boston you are. The NYC
subway map shows the lay of the land and 'weighs' things graphically
so you have a grasp of what is going on, where you are, what is an
express train, what is not...quickly pick your route...

I feel like some young hyper logical designers have overdesigned
gmail and taken the logic to an extreme that makes it almost non
functional for the average human brain. (and I am considered by my
friends to be extremely intelligent and annoyingly logical) but I also
know marketing and graphics and how the brain 'sees'.

I am not the only one who complains of my complaint...many many
friends do too....

This is my experience- I know others prob feel differently??I think
there are some people who think/see one way and some who think/see
another (like the old MAC/ PC debate....remember way back when: PC
eventually made all of their interface very similar to Mac's because
people could actually 'get' the mac interface. Now its the norm and
Mac has progressed it...  Hey half of my closest friends are super
major geeks. And I am considered a geek but of a 'lower grade' lol
because I guess I am also artistic... I get the hyper logic 'but this
is the correct way thing. but is it???

(OH! And the reason I posted this here is because I spent 20 minutes
trying to see how to start a new post in the general area!!! If you
can do that it is beyond me!! And if I have to search for 20 minutes
to post to the dumb board then I am getting even more pissy.)

I hope the google people read this!
(are you one or just a bystander?)

OK, one thing at a time:
No, I'm not a Google employee. They have a blue "G" in front of their
names and are called Gmail Guides. But I post a lot here. I even wrote
a knol article on how labels work as opposed to folders. (If you're
interested: http://knol.google.com/k/gravit/gmail-labels-and-filters/2h6zrj0o93leu/1).

Posting a question: it is really easier than you think. When you
arrive at this group we are in, you see this:
https://groups.google.com/group/Gmail-Help-Discussion
There you choose a topic that best fits your needs and then click on
it. Let's click on "Logging in" for example. Then you are taken to
that topic. Look at the bottom of the page and there's the button that
says "+Post your question".

The looks of Gmail: you can now set different themes if you go to
settings. There's also a popular skin that is available as a Firefox
add-on, it's the "Google Redesigned" skin (https://addons.mozilla.org/
en-US/firefox/addon/8434). You can also turn on custom label colours
in settings\labs so that you can add more distinct label colours.

Finding emails: well, there is no sorting function, but you can use
search quite well.
1. you can use keywords in the search box, like before:2008-10-10,
after:2008-10-10, to:Peter or from:emailaddress (http://
mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=7190). Watch the
video on that page. You can use pretty complex searches.
2. to find email history with a certain person, go to Contacts, select
a person (or many names) and click on "recent conversations - show".
This will prepopulatr the search field and you can amend it with a
before or an after search string.
3. you can use the labels box on the left. The key to Gmail really is
labelling and setting up filters, and archiving. (It is not productive
to create labels for each contact though because you can find those
emails easily as described in 2. above).

That's it for now, feel free to rant on. :)

Bugatti,

Allow me to quote myself from my previous post on this same page:

"a knol article on how labels work as opposed to folders. (If you're
interested:
http://knol.google.com/k/gravit/gmail-labels-and-filters/2h6zrj0o93leu/1)."

And as this is a help group, people come here to post questions or
problems they have, and others give them advice and such. This is
_not_ a blog or forum for Gmai appraisal or Gmail hate. So if you have
a question or need help in anything, feel free to ask.

Thanks for the useful post. I am forking the OP's question because I,
too, am having trouble creating a new post.
I am logged in to my account.
I go to the help group (either directly or by using the link you
provided)
I select a topic (I chose 'forwarding' under 'message delivery')
I do not see "+Post your question" anywhere, and ctrl-f in firefox
does not locate it on the page.
What did I miss?

Thanks in advance.

OK. If you want to post a brand new question, go to the Message
Delivery topic
(http://groups.google.com/group/Gmail-Help-Message-Delivery-en/topics?
gvc=2&ctx=l_delivery)
then scroll down to the bottom and the "+Post your question" button is
bottom left. It is about 1cm tall and 4cm wide, greyish colour. If you
still can't find it, I can upload a screenshot.

(You have to be a member of the group to be able to post, but since
you could post here, you have obviously joined already.)

If you want to post a reply or add your question to an existing
thread, you have to click on it and use "reply" to post your reply,
but I guess you already know that -- you could reply here afterall.

Sort of reminds me of buying cabbage at the grocery store, eating
cabbage, and going on a rant on how much I hate cabbage and then
demanding cabbage be removed from all the grocery stores all around
the world.

Illogical.

Buy beets and let those who like cabbage have their cabbage.

I do not understand  a damn thing why any one has problem with gmail.
I have been using gmail for more than 5 years both private e-mail
account and business email account.
I used both IT7 and Opera Browser and Chrome too to get faster mail.
The only problem I have is spam mails which I have to delete forever
everytime I am logging in.
I am using 3 pcs. one stationary and 2 laptops. The Stationary is
SIEMENS FUJITSU with Xp home edition and Toshiba Laptop Xp home
premium. The last one is Acer Aspire with Vista Home premium.

Why I am so lucky?

My gmail business accoun I can send attachments up to 20 MB, so my
private account.

What is the realy problem than?
I hope some one can help those who has problems with gmail.

Fat chance we have posted problems and Google does not give a rats
ass.
They don't even have the courtesy to reply and say what they are doing
about it,

Try having someone email you and after you have respoded to that
email, see if you can add that persons
email address to your contacts.

Once you have archieve mail that you have forwarded or archieve, any
copies that are deleted in the sent or trash box are also deleted.
Pretty dumb system eh?

It is actually a pretty logical system. True, it looks and feels
complicated if you dan't give a rat's ass about learning how it works.
I have already posted a link to a knol page explaining this twice on

Mr Raysotta, chill!  I've used at least a dozen different email
systems (Thunderbird, Yahoo, Netscape, yada, yada...) and Gmail is at
least as good as any of them.  In some ways better.  A few items might
take an extra step or two for now and I suspect that will change soon
enough, but I haven't found much any other system can do that Gmail
cannot.  I am not that savvy with computers and I figured out how to
use Gmail VERY effectively within a day or two.  I think you might
want to simmer down and just think through some features (or apparent
lack thereof) and do some Google search research.  It's there dude!

My 2 cents.

The duplicate address issue, I have no clue on.

But I can help with the problem of

> any copies that are deleted in
> the sent or trash box are also deleted

Gmail doesn't make copies for trash or for filing under labels. There
is always just the original message, with different ways to find it.

The inbox, for example, is just a 'canned search' for every message
with the 'inbox' label on it. If you apply another label to it, you
have just included this same original message in another search
index.

The same is true of the 'Trash' listing, it is just a search for
everything you have included in Trash, not copies.

Of course, no matter how you arrive at the message, once you delete
it, it won't show up in any seach at all.
