Those floods were caused by the remnants of hurricane Ida that came up from
the Carribean, across the Gulf of Mexico into Mississippi/Alabama, then
across N. Florida and Georgia into the Atlantic, up the E coast as a
Nor'easter across the N Atlantic and into England.  Where will it go next

It's snowing here ... about an inch or two by my reckoning, and more
coming.
I just put another log on the fire.
Sipping tea.
Cat No.1 is curled by the woodstove.
Cat No.2 is at the window, wishing it was nice out.
It is peaceful and quiet, except for Vivaldi.

Sounds lovely!  You can keep the snow for a while though.  I am
thankful that the ground here remains unfrozen, because I can
still rescue some of my plants this fall. I will also be able to
put driveway markers and such at the new house.

in 1998, parts of my area in south-central Texas had 24-28 inches.
(not a typo) much flooding ensued. at my rancho we had some 18 inches.
(all of this in just a few days)

in 2002, parts of my area of south-central Texas had upwards of 34
inches (not a typo) much flooding ensued. at my rancho we had 14
inches. (all of this in just a few days)

neither event was necessarily historic because such has happened
before. a reasonably good hurricane will bring as much rain. (in just
one day)

It's not the rural paradise that I longed for--only 1.1 acres.
But it has a nice space for my daughter and ample room for my
books (that was hard to find).  I was speaking to a neighbor, and
she told me there are deer, hawks--and a fisher.  So that's
encouraging.  (Obviously, there is more than that.)

If it turns out that this is not "the one", and I have any energy
left, I will just move again after Leah flies the coop.
Theoretically it will sell for more because we are finishing the
top floor and also the garage (which has its own full, walk-up attic).
