Subject: Home sweet home
For months now my housing corporation has been promising to rebuild my
kitchen. So I moved everything into the hall, and then they told me they had
discovered asbestos under the hall floor of one of the flats, so now they
have to rip up the hall and kitchen floors before reinstalling the kitchen.
So I had to move everything again, (oven, fridge et al) into the spare
bedroom. And finally yesterday at 07.00 they came, because it is asbestos,
(which btw is perfectly safe until they dig up the floor) I had to get out
of the place until nine o'clock in the evening. Anyway they gave me 50 Euros
to eat and drink all day, which was nice and I became homeless for a long
day.
When I got home the place looked a bit different, and this morning at seven
o'clock somebody started drilling on the kitchen/my bedroom wall, they have
a spare key. Anyway all this week they will be redoing everything and I am
keeping out of the way in my bedroom. The good part is I get a new kitchen
and toilet, and 600 Euros to replace the carpets. Don't tell anybody but I
have bought some expensive carpet tiles for the lounge with the money and am
going to move the less expensive carpet tiles from the lounge into the hall,
and still have some money left over. See pictures.

You can get attached to something else as well, sometime this afternoon they
took away the water bowl and pipe, it is nearly going home time so I got
some water from the bathroom to see if it still flows away, luckily it does,
could be a long night without a flushing toilet. See updated

Nobody yet, though there is a lot of banging upstairs. There are a dozen
vans in the street, they have to do over a hundred flats, one company is
removing the asbestos, they are doing two flats a day, six flats in each
building and they just started on the last two in my building. Then comes
the gas and water guy, (he was at my place yesterday) he is putting all new
pipes in the wall and floor. The new toilet is a modern one so he had to
remove the old water holder and install new water pipes. So far so good, I
think the next firm will be a tiling company who will retile the kitchen and
toilet, I was asked which color I wanted months ago. After that finally will
come the installers with the new toilet and kitchen sink et al. Somewhere
the electricians have to come, and I hope some cleaners because the place is
covered in cement, but I a'int holding my breath on that, oh and they have
removed the ventilation pipes so that will have to be done. I have a feeling
it may be next week before I can pull my toilet chain again. And finally I
will paint the kitchen walls while I am at it.
All good fun and jolly good company. But it is free and it will make my flat
very modern,
Graham
