Unfortunately, I find myself making more such mistakes. It's not that I don't know the difference, it's rather because I am hearing the words in my mind, and I am frequently typing while otherwise distracted.

In this day and age (yuk I hate that saying) With newsgroups and email, and mobile texting, I think we must all be guilty at times of laziness. Not checking everything. Spell checkers will only correct wrong words and only some glaring grammar. I do have a super little application that I am sure I have mentioned before, from Answers.com. It used to be called Gurunet. It is a tiny little programme that has not only a tiny search facility that sits on each open window. All that is required is to alt, right click, and it will come up with either the correct spelling or a suggestion for the right word. It also has definitions and links to Wiki. Unfortunately the spelling is always initially in American English. I wouldn't be without it. It does not, however correct my syntax or the worst of my grammar mistakes, or clumsy sentences. :-)

My spelling has become appalling since using a computer. I've never actually learned to type so that also doesn't help.

:-) I am a very fast two-finger typist. I did learn to type eons ago, but then I never used that skill and forgot it. A few years ago, I realized that even typing with two fingers, I usually am not looking at the keyboard.

I am a touch typist, extraordinaire. Accolades for my speed, wouldn't get any now but I can still make the keyboard smoke at times. However I am way too modest to mention it.

Both my spelling and my grammar have become much more relaxed since I started posting to news groups, a far cry from college days. There, one gross illiteracy would turn an A paper into an F.
