...squirrels really are the most delightful little creatures.
I have been standing at my sink, trying to get the sticky off my food
processor and watching a couple of squirrels, squabbling over a peanut
holder. One has managed to unhook it from the feeder and has soon learnt
that by tipping it up and shaking, the peanuts fall out.  It then seems
as if the pair of them will tussle to see just how many they can ram in
their mouths at once.
Some I will find next Spring I expect, buried in the compost of
containers, I certainly find the ones still in shells there.
I am going to have to go out and clear up the peanuts scattered about or
I know two dogs who will snaffle all they can before they disappear.
Pickles also has a penchant for sunflower seeds and will purposely wait
until the birds have scattered enough seeds to make it worth while.
This pair of squirrels looks so healthy, bright eyed and bushy tailed to
be sure. I could stand here all day, but it is so beautiful out there in
the garden, chilly but bright sunshine.
By the way we have a glut of Conference pears. I have run out of things
to do with them and they don't store, except frozen in puds.

What is happening in your garden today?

Bobbie

I shouldn't think them any fun at all if found in your loft but these
are just a joy to watch, and they are getting so friendly they seem to
know when it is time to refill the feeder, and will sit on the backs of
a nearby bench, only an arms length away and wait.
If I didn't have more important things to do I could watch them all day.
We also get pretty little wood mice that will also come a feed
particularly from the chopped peanut and worm feeders, which is unusual
because normally they feed at night.

Janet is the lucky one, she has red squirrels that play in her garden,
now that really is special.

HID is actually picking tiny sprouts from his plants at the moment and
they are good enough to eat raw but washed. of course.
Good luck to Rachel for hers in the basement. We do love our sprouts. We
are also a family of cabbage eaters. You wont hear any cries of "Eat
your greens" here. <g>

Nowt much.    Goldfinches after the sunflower hearts, but they aren't
going down as fast this week, for some reason.
I suppose they will be more enthusiastic as the weather cools off, which
it is doing.
Down to single figures during the night, and I woke at 6:30 feeling
chilled.
Too darn lazy to get out and put the fleece blanket over the duvet, but
I'll do that tonight.
It looked too gloomy for a possible trip to Etherow, so I called M and
cancelled, much to her glee.      :-)

She has had a chap from one of our dance venues call her( with a view to
dancing with her, I suppose), and this morning she hinted about us going
dancing on Wednesday, probably so I can teach her the steps she has
forgotten before she goes with a new partner.
I had toyed with the idea already...
She has gone from walking and dancing to zero exercise since we split,
and it has concerned me.

They're nice enough, until they gang up on people., in huge numbers.   We
have "relocated" 21 squirrels from our back yard so far this year.  We
decided to *share* them with other parts of town.  We have 3 left, and they
provide enough pleasure, as we sit in our dining room and watch the wilder
life  in the back yard.

In Britain they are officially regarded as vermin or pests, and if you
catch them it is an offence to release them again.   They should be
handed over to be humanely killed.     (Oxymoron, but YKWIM).  :)

Thankfull the dog didn't see it because he's already had 2 lots of

It is something I have to be careful of when I walk the dogs on the
Heath in the warmer months. Adders. There are plenty and because we
cross country, we see them often in hot spots. There have been a few
dogs bitten, but as far as I am aware the dogs were treated in time. I
had no idea there was a limit to the amount of anti-venom that can be
used on dogs. That must be a dreadful worry for you with a Jack Russell,
notorious for snuffling around. Great characters but creatures of habit.

I don't think there is a limit for anitvenine treatments.  I know of one dog
that, last time I heard, had had antivenine for a snake bite in each of 8
years.  The family lost twins tragically together in an accident and as the
dog had belonged to one of the twins and was thus very precious to the
parents, they had it treated each time it was bitten.

Himself made the statement to the dog and as it's his dog, it's his decision
if he has to take the dog to the vet.  I know if it happens on my watch and
the dog is still reasonable conscious and not like a piece of wet paper by
the time I get him to the vet, my instructions would be to try to save him.
