Subject: I've started walking again
I'm trying to get back into the habit of walking again.  So far I've managed
to walk for nine days in a row.  Yesterday I went the farthest so far - only
about 1 1/4 mile, but I'm working up gradually.  On my way home, a man was
out in his front yard.  He said, "Wait!  I have some flowers for you."  As
he walked toward his house, he said, "I've been trying to catch you for
three days."  He went inside, and apparently into the back yard.  He was
gone so long I almost walked on, but I kept waiting and he came out with a
big bouquet of yellow flowers.  I'm not sure what kind they are.  The look a
bit like chrysanthemums, and have a nice, light aroma.

I told my son about it, and this was his response:  "Ok, what the intentions
of the gentleman with the flowers?  lol"

Thank you.  I'm sure I will.  It is an effort for me to get out and do it,
but it is one of the few forms of exercise I don't find totally boring.  I'd
enjoy it more if I had prettier places to walk, as you and some others here
do, but it still isn't bad once I make myself do it.  I was walking
regularly before my last trip to Australia (over 2 years ago now), but that
trip broke the habit, and I never got back into it.  I've been telling
myself for the past two years that I need to start walking again.  Finally,
a week ago Monday, I stopped saying that and started doing it.  Two or three
of those nine days, I felt I could justify not walking, but I knew if I
missed even one day, it would be harder to make myself go the next day, so I
didn't.

A lovely story Joy....walking is the best think anybody can do.
My walks are short and frequent as I have to watch the humidity, but
they have certainly had a good effect.  Nobody has given me flowers
though 8>(

We had a little chat today.  I wasn't sure what kind the flowers were, so I
asked him about them.  I was right - they are chrysanthemums.  Then he told
me how he bought three small plants for $1 a couple of years ago, kept them
in his greenhouse for a year, and then planted them.  They grew very large
and he has lots of flowers.

On one hand, he said he gave flowers to all his neighbors.  OTOH, he just
happened to be out in front with his dog when I passed his house the first
time, and he came out the door as I passed the second time.

When I was in the US I got the impression that few people walk for
pleasure, there was an earnestness about them as they power-walked
around the park.

When I'm out and about locally, especially in the country, there is
almost invariably a greeting exchanged.        One lady who passed my
house every day always said "hello", and one day I stopped her and asked
her name, and if she had known my wife.       That proved to be the
case, and now we greet each other by name, and sometimes have a chat.
