I'd never thought about it, but I'd be very surprised if any El Cerrito
kids go to Richmond High. The character of those two towns is very different.

Same school district, though.

I'm not sure what to make of that.  Around here when disparate towns
share a school district, usually it is a result of court-ordered
desegregation.

I guess when the district formed, the character of the towns was not
so different?

Hmmm. Apparently there was a desegration order in 1969. I didn't live
here then. I believe that around that time there were riots and large
areas of downtown Richmond burned, or so I have been told by longtime
residents, and I've seen the vacant lots and the closed storefronts.
Being built up there now, or tentatively reused. Guess it takes a long
time for areas like that to rehab/repurpose.

Indiana.

Our county HS had 1000 students, including junior high.

Well, I can't find the history of when this school district was created.
In this area, I know that there was a large influx of war workers. White
and black. There was limited housing, so you see some very small houses
in my immediate area, which I imagine were built to take advantage of
the new workers arriving. I have been told that people were living
anywhere they could, like handy garages. Another thing I do know, is
that there is an area of housing nearby, which was all black. They were
supposed to go there, I guess, to keep everything nice and tidy! Which I
suppose would imply some former homogeneity.

Talking about Richmond, the remains of Laci Peterson and unborn son
washed ashore in Richmond.
