Subject: Program which can properly play dvd ISO files of my hard drive?
I'm going on vacation, and rather than bring a bunch of dvd's with me,
i would rather just copy them to my hard drive as ISO files. I am
wondering if anyone knows of a program that can play a dvd iso properly
(working menu's, audio/video, etc..)

I have tried loading the iso into windows media player and win dvd7
with no luck.

Thanks.

I think ISO files are a storage format and can't be played until they are
restored. I have never seen a program that would allow you to "play" them.

You could conceivably use a virtual drive to load the iso file and play
it as a dvd. I know Nero and Alcohol 120% will create a virtual drive
for testing. Once the image is loaded (mounted), the system will act
like you just put the disc in.

I think the answer to your problem lies with a program that I use to play DVD ISO movie files from my hard drive and it is called VLC Media Player and is freeware from http://www.videolan.org/ . There is a version for the Mac and Windows.

Good Luck
Steve.

You don't need to make them "ISO" disk image files.
Just make a folder with the name of the DVD and copy
the VIDEO_TS folder into it.

Then you can right click on the folder and select "Play
with VLC media player" (assuming you selected the
option when you installed VLC, if not just reinstall VLC.)
That way you can use the Windows file structure to
easily access your DVDs.

Most all the software DVD players have a way to play
a DVD from a folder on your hard drive.  For some you
can just Drag & Drop the VIDEO_TS folder on the
player's icon.  For many you can right click on the
VIDEO_TS.IFO file and select from the "Open with"
options displayed.

You can make a page of shortcuts that do that for you,
if you want.

  Luck;
     Ken
