We don't have referendums to vote on school expenditures. The schools are
primarily supported by a RE tax, an earned income tax, and the state.
The RE tax falls most heavily on land. People who live in manufactured
housing (not on a foundation) can depreciate it and often end up paying
little RE tax. There are use and means based programs for tax abatement

The thing is, parents toss a fit at the threat of the school they went to
being closed and/or cutting sports. They're way less concerned about the
schools ranking in the bottom third on the state academic tests.

We have the same thing going on here. The school district is trying to
make a temporary tax levy they hit us with last year permanent. They
raised our taxes in excess of 900 dollars per year because they don't
want to bite the bullet and close a school and lay off half of the

You're dodging my question. I didn't ask for insurance advice. Yes, I
do know what an umbrella policy is. They are inexpensive but "high end"
homeowner/vehicle policies are a prerequisite.
You had already mentioned Good Samaritan laws in general. I haven't run
across one that protects a "self defense" shooter from possible civil

Considering that a 3rd party issue will be a tort issue, most probably
covered under Good Samaritain laws, where individuals are acting in good
faith, and shit happens
You should also talk to your insurance agent
If you have car AND house insurance from the same company, you can for a few
dollars more get "umbrella coverage".

That's depressing stuff Larry. I was hoping the US was coming out of it.
with many of the world's governments stimulus packages either ending or
about to end, it seems like there might be more bad news on the way.
