Do you have an example of a specific state law that protects the
defensive shooter from civil liability? My state (PA) has a law that
protects the landowner from civil liability in the event that a hunter
permitted on his/her property injures someone. {Turned out that it was

In many states, if there is no basis for a claim of recklessness, then the
shooter is not at risk
There is also the fact that in most states, the individual who caused the
defensive shooting is the one that is held liable, if no reckelssness is
found.

Key word is "reckless"
The onus on proving "reckless" falls on the prosecution.
And in this case, it would be a criminal and not a civil trial, and that
would require proof beyond a shadow of doubt.
Very hard to prove.

Which, if correct, confirms that armed citizens do sometimes shoot an
innocent person. That police supposedly mistakenly shoot more isn't
surprising considering their occupation. (And it was mentioned in my
first scenario.)
