Ah, but the midway guy wants you to put money down for each play.
He's the big name in this group; I'm the nobody.  But we're both
playing evenly.  Now if the midway guy puts down exactly as much money
and effort for each play that I do, the metaphor might match.  

I am happy with what I get here.  Terry is happy with what he gets
here.  The rest of the group knows enough about killfiles not to be
annoyed.  Everyone wins.

So why should I quit playing if everyone wins?

Very true, but one must also take in to account the cockroach-like
nature of the internet, able to survive even the most determined
attempts to exterminate it. The Streissand Effect, writ large, so to
