If they're speaking purely local dialect and from fairly far apart
within Germany, "might not" can easily become "will not".   Even a
strong accent in attempted Hochdeutsch can be difficult to deal with.  
I'm fine in the Ruhr and Schwaben, but had some problems in the Eifel.
