Was in Vegas Tues-Thurs for a conference. Stayed at the Excalibur - my first south strip experience. The flight in and other travel was unremarkable. I took the shuttle to the hotel for like $6. I checked in early, got an upgrade. Rooms are standard, not particularly nice but nothing wrong with them. I didn't like the shower and I didn't seem to have unlimited hot water - a huge minus. Decent view of New York New York and CityCenter, facing the north strip.
On Tuesday night I got drunk and played with a friend I know in Vegas at the MGM. They had 1-2 NLHE and a limit game, I think 3/6. I was pretty hosed at this point in the night but there are two hands that I got completely fucked on.
I bought in for $100 and after folding for about 20 minutes, I get a monster in my BB - J3. A bunch of limpers and I check. Flop comes 33T. I bet, everyone folds but this Asian guy. Asian guy made a lot of gutsy moves previously, and I think he would call an all-in with a far worse hand than what I have. Turn is a 2. I check, he bets like $10, and I raise to $30, he calls. River is a K. I push and he calls (possibly slow rolled) and shows 22.
I rebuy for $100 and I grind it to just over $150 and feeling pretty good about it. About an hour later, I'm on the button with 24. They were suited, so obviously I couldn't fold. Guy in EP raises. Folds to me and I decided to "vary my play" and call. Blinds fold. Flop comes 5AA. He checks; I check. I'm praying like mad for a 3. Turn comes 3. He bets, I call. River was like an 8 or something. He thinks for a second, bets, and I push and he instacalls and shows 55. After that I just stumbled back to my room and fell asleep.
That's pretty much it for poker content. After recovering from a massive hangover on Wednesday, after the conference let out I went downtown and played at 4 Queens. That place is such a dump. It's true "old-style" Vegas, and it reminds me a lot of Reno. I was playing Pai Gow (I have a weakness for that game) and the pit boss was the traditional creepy piece of shit that yelled at the dealer for setting the hand wrong (she had like JJ9T4 instead of JJT94). I lost in Pai Gow and went top lay video poker. And before I catch shit from Paul, I played 8/5 Jacks with a royal progressive at $1700 (almost 100%, I believe) and a 9/6 Dbl Dbl Bonus with progressives on all of the quad pays (also almost 100%). I got my ass handed to me like I never have before in Vegas. The machines were all in shit shape. I got like 150 points and they had a promo where I get $10 of free play. It was 11:45 PM and I go to the counter and she was like "the machine which gives free play closes at 11:45." There were like 8 things that stood out as "wrong" in that sentence, and I had to ask her to repeat it about 4 or 5 times to make sure that the gem of stupidity I heard is, in fact, what I truly heard.
I saw the Fremont Street experience too. I didn't know what it was but it was disappointing and a little frightening; the collage of music was chopped in such a way that each song was about 20 seconds, usually an introductory line and then it jumps to the chorus. The "jump" was sloppy though and very unclean from an audio editing part. The choice of music was good; the women on the top screen that get "blown up" and set on fire was a little scary. With all the fire I imagine that's what hell would be like. Also I just got my ass kicked in VP and Pai Gow so I was in my own hell.
I flew out Thursday night. I was done gambling but I had about 6 hours before my flight left, so I was going to try to get drunk on the cheap, which was unsuccessful. I went to a little piano bar in NY NY and it was fairly entertaining. I love piano bars. I requested "Fool In The Rain" by Zeppelin but they didn't know it. I picked it because I knew neither of them had the vocal range for it. I tipped along with the request but they didn't give me a second choice. Assholes. I went to "The Pub" in the back of the MGM. Not really impressive. Everything was ridiculously overpriced of course.
That's pretty much it. Next Vegas trip is in March, and after that the WSOP in May. I'm hoping one of these Vegas trips, I can break even. I've never come even close to breaking even. Not once, not close.

A 5-card hand that is 22233 is a full house, 2s full of 3s. A 5-card hand that is 333KJ is 3 of a kind, with a king jack kicker. A full house beats 3 of a kind.

Nice TR. I had read that the Excal's bathrooms aren't up to par and there are better deals. I can't fault you on the hands too much, sounds like you could have gotten a decent payoff against the usual tourist. Cept maybe calling the raise with the 2 4
Not folding shit like that preflop would not have cost you near as much! The locals picks out their best player to give you game and I'll bet each could not wait till their turn for chomping at the bits!
Your lucky you stay was not longer$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

So the 1/2 games are where "the locals" chop up outsiders. Glad to know that. I know the 2/5 and 5/10 games are either honest or set up to pay for my trip every time. Not huge wins but they have covered the air fares and the (cheap) hotels. Is that what they are doing, quite nice of them.

Try to find a "deep stack" tournament, especially at The Venitian. Those are a poker player's delight.
4Queens currently is matching your points with free play, essentially making it double points. You have to go to the desk to activate. They have some pretty decent machines there, so I don't know why you chose the poorer paytables, (except that you might be a retard). 4Queens also is very good with comps. It's one of the better deals downtown.

If you nurture this carefully, Alim, it might almost make up for Barack Obama being President of the United States.
