If you believe a fertilized egg isn't alive -- life -- there's no
point in discussing anything further.  You've put the end before
the means.

I was in the middle of a long-winded discussion of this point over at
alt.music.rush , and even some of the more sensible people tried to
dissemble that exact point.

Whether a fertilized egg is alive is a red herring.  There are lots of
things that are alive but don't deserve legal protection.  There are
lots of things that have human DNA and are alive, but don't deserve
legal protection.

The red sawce they use at Mark's Feed Store in Louisville <<<<<<
ketchup.  Just plain bland and boring, even what they considered their
hot sauce.  Maybe someone had systematically gone through and swapped
the labels on all the bottles.

The burgoo was pretty good, though.

All I can say is, "What Atrios said."

"Believe what you want, but the important question for politicians is
how such things get translated into... policy. And when McCain says he
believes life begins at conception (cheer!) it's pretty meaningless
unless he's asked to explain how that would be translated into policy.
Are blastocysts entitled to child support? Do all late periods need to
be reported to the Ministry of Health? And, of course, my favorite: Are
those who implant multiple embryos during IVF treatments, knowing full
well that most will die, guilty of negligent manslaughter?"
