Yong Chanthalangsy on November 5, 2009 while on official duty at the United Nations, launched a new online propaganda attacking several international critics of his government's on-going denial of human rights abuses. He posted the following reaction to a Lao American citizen sympathetic to the one-party Communist authoritarian regime of the Lao PDR:
"it is the same liars such as Philip Smith, Vannida Thepsouvanh and their henchmen who dream of conducting sabotages to torpedoe our SEA Game but they failed and spead this intoxication."
Though unusual as it seems, the leading Lao diplomat the the international governing body of the U.N. seems content on conducting official business via internet chatrooms and spewing official government positions and attacking international critics.

Dr. Pao, what does Mr. Khenthong Nouanthasinh have to say about Yong's on-going internet propaganda, and specifically in regards to his as well as Yong's reaction to the recent news about arrests of would-be protesters? Surely, you just can't post pictures of yourself with an official spokesperson of the Lao PDR in his private residence...and then claim to have no knowledge of his government's official positions that come from his office, or his own mouths!

Dr. Pao, you need to clear the air about your visit with the official and current spokesperson of the Lao PDR, and where you stand with respect to the issues that Yong (who held that very post previously) has accused you of fabricating all these years.

Samphong... why do you direct your question directly to Yong? Just remember what I have posted earlier... and that I left Laos on 31st Oct, long before the news of the arrest. But I have said more than once also that there was certainly change with the visible increase in security during my last week in Vientiane... Dr. Pao, part of the perks that comes with you being such good friends with Yong's replacement, Mr. Khenthong Nouanthasinh, the official Lao spokesperson, is that perhaps you can request for a direct and full explanation for his blatant denial of the RFA story? After all, what are personal friends for, if not for straight and honest talk!
Mr. Khenthong Nouanthasinh's official response, as again reported in the RFA was:
"RFA’s news does not have any foundation. It has been fabricated by people with bad intentions to tarnish the reputation and destroy the image of the Lao PDR [People’s Democratic Republic] as it is getting ready to celebrate its national day on Dec. 2, and host the 25th SEA Games in December as well.”
